We tried the Amylu Chicken Breakfast Sausage at Costco and overall thought that they were pretty tasty.
We wanted to write a full review for these sausages as they are not right for everyone. That being said, I think that if you go in with the right expectations then you will like these breakfast sausage links just fine.
The most important thing to know about these sausages is that they do NOT taste like pork sausage. I realize that might sound obvious but I have read so many negative reviews by people who were disappointed that these breakfast links taste like chicken.
The 2.5 pound package of Amylu Chicken Breakfast Sausage Links is Item Number 1380296 and is found in the refrigerated cases by the deli. The 2.5 pound package currently costs $13.99.
These chicken sausages are Pork Free, Paleo, Gluten Free. There are 54 links per package and the links are already fully cooked.
Heating Instructions for the Amylu Breakfast Links
These sausages are already fully cooked and only need to be heated through before serving.
The packaging suggests heating the sausage links in the microwave for 45-55 seconds. Another suggestion was to pan fry them over Medium heat for a few minutes and then tossing in a little water to let them steam through.
The microwave method is the easiest way to heat the links but I think you get a slightly better texture when you heat them in an air fryer at 425 for five minutes.
Taste
I think the sausages are well seasoned and have more of a Savory than Sweet taste profile.
The sausages are not overly salty or greasy.
The sausages definitely taste like chicken which is absolutely fine by me. If you want these to be a pork substitute that actually tastes like pork then you will not like these.
The texture of the sausage is a bit on the rubbery side. I am pretty sure that the texture is result of chicken fat having a different structure than pork fat as well as the overall meat to fat ratio being different.
There is another brand of chicken sausage breakfast links at Costco, Jones Farms, that is found in the freezer section. I think the Jones Farms sausages taste a little better than the Amylu sausages but the Amylu product is more convenient.
Serving Ideas
The chicken breakfast links can be used as a traditional breakfast side dish alongside classics like scrambled eggs, grits and hash browns.
You can also dice them up and sauté along with some zucchini or other veggies of choice and work them into an omelet.
The chicken links are delightful when cut up and added to a bowl of bean soup.
We really liked using them cut into thirds, heated and then served on toothpicks with a cheese cube. They made for a delightful party snack that our guests loved.
