Here is a quick, easy and delicious flap steak recipe for an Asian Inspired Beef and Broccoli Stir Fry.
The key to the recipe is the teriyaki ginger marinade that is packed with flavor.
Let us show you how to put this meal on your table in 45 minutes.
Before you start working on the stir fry you will need to make a pot of rice. The rice will take about 30 minutes to cook so get started on that now.
We love a great stir fry and think this one is even better than the Costco Yakisoba Stir Fry we get every couple of weeks.
Slice the Steak and Veggies
We were using a one pound flap steak from Costco. We used most of the flap steak to make tacos but saved this beautiful piece for a stir fry.
Find the grain structure of the flap steak and use a sharp knife to make thin slices AGAINST the grain of the meat. You want the slices to be as thin as possible so they will soak up a bunch of marinade and cook quickly in the wok.
After the beef has been sliced it is time to slice an onion and bell pepper.
We like to cut the onion in half and then make thin, half moon slices.
The bell pepper gets seeded, opened up and then sliced into matchsticks.
After the steak, onions and peppers are sliced get a head of broccoli and break it down so you have about two cups of florets.
Marinate the Slices of Flap Steak
Prepare a marinade for the steak slices. We used the following:
Stir Fry Marinade
- 1/3 cup teriyaki sauce
- 1 tbls fresh grated ginger
- 1 tbls Sriracha chili garlic sauce
- 1 tsp sesame oil
Place the meat in the marinade, give everything a stir and let it soak at room temperature for 30 minutes.
Cook the Stir Fry
We start the stir fry by adding a two teaspoons of peanut oil to a wok then heat over Medium heat. We toss in the onions and peppers and let them sweat down until tender.
It takes about 7-8 minutes for the onions and peppers to cook down and which point we take them out of the wok and turn up the heat to High.
Once the wok gets really hot pour the steak with the marinade into the wok. Let the steak cook for a minute or so and then add the broccoli florets.
Cook the steak and broccoli over high heat for 5-6 minutes tossing the mix frequently.
Your kitchen is going to smell amazing!
After 5-6 minutes, add the peppers and onions back to the wok and toss to incorporate. Cook for 1-2 more minutes and serve.
Serve the Beef and Broccoli Stir Fry Over Rice
Take the rice you started about 30 minutes ago and spread it out on a platter.
Serve the Beef and Broccoli Stir Fry over the rice and dig in!
